Hi divers
Despite the recent warmth, with all the freezing cold days scattered between the rainy days winter has slowly sneaked in and the Bay has started to clean up nicely. Last weekend almost every dive site dived delivered around 10 metre visibility and the temperatures have dropped somewhat. The average temperatures last weekend were 12 degrees. The wind however has been slow in letting go and the last two weeks have seen many days that have just not been great for diver training.

I have used these days to do a lot of work on the boat and it is now closer to where we want it to be. Over the long weekend we had a full boat, seven divers and me, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was enough space for everyone. The boat was booked by a local dive centre and one I hold in high regard and they said they had a great time and that meant a lot. We also did dives of our own to Atlantis and the SAS Pietermaritzburg.

On Tuesday we were out again and made sure we had found the mark for Ark Rock Eastern Wreck, and Photographer’s Reef. Lucky for me the visibility was extremely good and I could see the bottom in most cases. Grant also came by with his boat and confirmed we were on the Ark rock wreck.
This weekend
Sadly we will not be doing much diving once again as a 5 metre swell arrives tomorrow evening and this will make training dives very unpleasant. If you are one of the current students hoping for better weather, don’t worry about the long gap between training dives as we will just add a couple of dives to get you back up to speed. I am going diving tomorrow and if conditions are better than forecast I will give you a call. Some of the deeper off-shore sites will be an option and we may launch the boat on Saturday but I will make that call late tomorrow evening. At this point most dive charters are calling off the planned dives and they all have better weather predicting skills than I do.

Next week
We are leaving for Mozambique on Monday and will be back next Saturday. It’s very unkind to share useless information but current conditions in Ponta do Ouro are as follows: water temperature 25 degrees, swell 1.2 metres, visibility 15-20 metres . That said, the weather forecast for next week in Cape Town looks really good.
If you think you might want to be on the boat on Saturday, let me know – otherwise I’ll be in touch when we get back.
Regards
